Ex-Saints and former Pompey players in a Warsash invitation team joined a number of other footballers for a charity match in sunshine and showers at Titchfield last night (August 2).
Matthew Le Tissier, Paul Walsh, Lee Bradbury, Ian Baird, Rod Wallace and Steve Baker were among the former professionals that turned out for the game at West Hill Park School.
The game was organised by Jim O’Grady from the Jolly Farmer pub in Fleet End Road and former Saint Leroy Whale, who lives in Park Gate.
Before the kick off the players mingled with a large number of people who turned up in the sunshine and showers for the game. Matt Le Tissier was the centre of attention for Saints fans and their children and was happy signing shirts and autographs before and after the game.
The game was played in good spirit but was competitive and ended in a 6-3 win to the Warsash invitation team – but the end result was an aside to the funds being raised from the game and a charity ska evening at the pub – including a raffle – after the match.
Funds raised will go towards the ex-Saints charity to hold a Christmas party for carers of handicapped people, as well as to the Liver and Pancreatic R&D cancer charity.
