Thousands of students across the south – including hundreds from the Western Wards – were this morning finding out their A-level results.
At Barton Peveril College – which is the one favoured by the majority of college-bound pupils leaving Brookfield School – they had a pass rate this year of 98.3 per cent.
And Fareham College said its pass rate was in line with other years at 99 per cent.
At Barton Peveril – which is in Eastleigh – 78 per cent of A-level grades this year were at grades A* to C.
The 10 per cent of students who took vocational courses also performed well with a 100 per cent pass rate and 68 per cent achieving distinction grades equivalent to A* to B at A-level.
At Fareham College 13 out of 14 subjects had a 100 per cent pass rate. Of those 28 per cent achieved an A*-B grade with 73 per cent getting an A* to C grade.
The high performing subject areas at Fareham included English subjects, business studies, media subjects, maths and social sciences.
Jonathan Prest, Principal at Barton Peveril, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating an impressive set of results which show Barton Peveril’s excellent A-level pass rate maintained for a fifth successive year and a significant increase in the percentage of students achieving high grades.
“Students have worked incredibly hard over the past two years.
“Barton Peveril has long championed the Extended Project as valuable evidence of independent learning skills and this year the qualification will really come into its own with government changes to university admissions criteria leading to fierce competition for the most talented students.
“Almost 600 of our A-level students took the Extended Project in addition to their three subjects in 2013 and 61 per cent of them achieved A* to B grades.
“It is also extremely rewarding to know that more Barton Peveril students are set to benefit from the increased number of university places available to applicants with ABB grades this year.”
