Students congratulated one another, while some heaved a sigh of relief upon collecting their GCSE results at Brookfield School today (Thursday August 22).
Some appeared anxious at opening their envelope of results or perhaps a little disheartened for not quite getting the grades they had hoped.
But most pupils were delighted with their exam grades and are looking forward to beginning studies at college in just a few weeks time.
It was a tremendous success for Clara Knight who achieved 14 A*s when she said she was not expecting to. But with these grades in hand, she will be heading to Peter Symonds College to study English Literature, French, Biology and Geography.
“I was really nervous, especially with all the news about it changing,” said the 16-year-old. “I’m so shocked! I came out with three A*s and an A last year, but that A has been put up to an A* this year. I was expecting more As this year really.”
Nadia Dehghani, 16, was delighted to achieve six A*s, eight As and two Bs ready to go on to study at Barton Peveril. She aims to study medicine in the future. These GCSEs add to her three As and B she achieved last year.
“I’m feeling quite relieved,” said Nadia, of Meadow Avenue in Locks Heath. “I thought my exams went well and I was trying not to be too confident and trying to keep calm.
“I didn’t think Spanish went very well. But I got an A so I’m very happy with that.
“I’d like to go on to Oxford University.”
Opening the envelope of results to find he had achieved better than expected was a surprise for George Carter-Jones. The 16-year-old from Portsmouth admitted his nervousness, but remained calm when collecting his results.
“I thought I’d done everything I could, so was trying to be relaxed as possible,” he said. “When I opened it today I got Bs, A*s and As for all of them.
“In English literature I got an A* when I wasn’t expecting it. With Science I thought I’d struggled, but I got Bs and As in those. My family are going to take me out for lunch to celebrate.”
He will be going to Barton Peveril to study Psychology, Sociology, Economics and English Literature and Language.
Former head girl Molly Keith was ecstatic with her grades and is looking forward to going on to study English Literature, Biology, Graphics and Photography at Barton Peveril. Her seven A*s and two As have added to last year’s GCSEs of an A*, an A and two Bs.
Molly, 16, said: “My results were really good; I was really pleased with them. They’re a lot better than I expected. In French I really thought I was going to fail because it’s something I struggled with.
“I’m really looking forward to starting college. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I’m very happy.”
