Tributes have been paid to a “highly regarded” former councillor who represented the people of Locks Heath for 24 years who has died.
Ruth Godrich, a well-respected ward councillor and former mayor of Fareham, died peacefully at her home in Locks Heath on Monday (26th August).
She represented the ward from 1979 to 1983, 1990 to 1994 and 1996 to 2012, during which time she also served as Mayor in 2009/2010.
Mrs Godrich became an Honorary Alderman in June 2012 where she and her husband Mike, also a former Locks Heath councillor, celebrated with their family.
Mr Godrich, who was also made an Honorary Alderman for serving 24 years , passed away in September last year.
Current Mayor and Locks Heath councillor Susan Bayford said: “Ruth was, along with her husband, a very fine councillor and committed to Fareham Borough Council for many years.
“She dedicated herself to the ward and was made an Honorary Alderman in recognition of her services to the council.
“She will be much missed and most of all by her family. She was a fine lady. She was highly regarded.”
Warsash ward councillor Trevor Cartwright said: “I’ve known Ruth for many years and she was a dedicated councillor for Locks Heath and worked really hard.
“Unfortunately she did suffer ill health for her last years. It all happened a bit quickly.
“She was very keen on road safety. She was involved in the Genesis Centre as well.”
Fareham council leader, Councillor Seán Woodward, added: “Ruth was a dear friend and colleague who will be sadly missed. She dedicated much of her life to working hard for the community as a councillor for Locks Heath and as Mayor.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, most especially her children Juliette and Simon.”
No funeral arrangements have yet been made.
